Big News for Small Screens
Our most exciting Archives news this month again pertains to the
Canadian Jewish Heritage Network, the shared
database website we developed in 2010 to facilitate access to the
holdings of the CJCCC National Archives and our site partners.
When using a handheld device, visitors to www.cjhn.ca are now
automatically directed to our new mobile
interface, which allows access to all the functions
offered by the full site. The site has also been enhanced by a new
multi-database search engine, developed by Andornot Consulting Inc. to work with the
mobile view. This streamlined search technique
uses the General Keyword Search bar as a point of
departure in order to present results from all the data on the CJHN
site in a compact and informative manner, with the option to
"Share" data in order to use it from another device
later.
The General Keyword Search is
the default research mode for the mobile
view. In the full site view, it
is located in the blue header bar on every page
of the site, as well as on the "Explore" page at www.cjhn.ca/en/explore.aspx).
Meanwhile, the full features of the Advanced Search and the Genealogy Search pages continue to function as
before. Mobile users who want access to all the detailed
capabilities of these pages have the choice to opt into the full
site from the small screen view.
