Copying fees

Various fees apply for copies of archival material, whether ordered directly from the Alex Dworkin Canadian Jewish Archives or via the Canadian Jewish Heritage Network website.

The following information applies to all material for which reproductions are permitted, in accordance with Canadian copyright and privacy laws as well as donor restrictions, where applicable. 

Photographic reproductions (digital)

For an already-scanned image, in our standard size (300 dpi tiff)
 $10.00 CAD per image
For a newly scanned image in standard size (300 dpi tiff)
 $20.00 CAD per image
For larger format, special order scans
 $30.00 CAD per image

 

Photographic reproductions (prints)

Photographic prints of photographs can be ordered, but as this process must be outsourced, the time delay is greater and prices vary based on the service provider. We therefore recommend that you order a digital file and specify that you want it large enough for printing in a specific size.

Research and document selection

Up to fifteen (15) minutes of research and selection time can be done free of charge. After this limit has been reached, you will be notified that a charge of $25.00 per hour will apply for further work. Please allow two weeks per order.

Digital reproduction of documents

Limited quantities of material can be sent by email, usually as multi-page PDF format documents, with a minimum fee of $5.00. Additional pages will be charged at a rate of $1.00 CAD per page for a multipage PDF document or documents. A limit of 50 pages may apply to some collections, and/or there may be additional fees for the research time required to select pages. 

Paper photocopies of documents onsite 

Standard-size or legal-size photocopies:

Black & White = 25 cents per page 

Colour = 50 cents per page

Ledger-sized photocopies:

Black & White = 50 cents per page

Colour = $1.00 per page

Photocopies of large and/or fragile documents and artefacts 

Documents (over ledger size) and artefacts that are too fragile or large for the flatbed scanners can be copied at the archivist's discretion. Please contact us for more information about this service.

Certified documents 

Documents that require certification are $1.00 per page.

Retrieval of personal files from remote storage

Due to the fees charged to us for retrieval of recent personal case files (JIAS and URO), those with authorization to access these files will be required to pay a retrieval fee of $100.00 for an initial file and a variable charge for any additional file or files ordered at the same time.

Audio or audio visual materials (digital)

For non-copyright-protected audio or audio-visual archival material that is already available in digitally copied form, the cost is $10.00 per digital copy of an audio file or audio visual file. We suggest that you communicate with us first to ensure that our digital format is compatible with your equipment.

Audio or audio visual materials (digital copies of older formats)

Rates for copying older audio-visual materials vary depending on the format. Audio cassette tapes can be digitized on-site at the rate of $20.00 per recording, or $20.00 per hour. Other formats, such as film and VHS must be outsourced for copying and therefore prices will vary according to the service provider. Audiovisual materials are generally copied only in compressed format. Obituary Notice Reproductions 

For reproductions of Obituary Notices from the microfilmed Yiddish-language newspaper the Keneder Adler (The Jewish Daily Eagle), the cost is $10.00 per notice.

Payment methods

All prices listed above are in Canadian dollars. Orders can be paid online via credit card using our Federation CJA-hosted interface. We also accept payments via Canadian funds cheques made to Jewish Federations of Canada-UIA (JFC-UIA) with "Canadian Jewish Archives" specified in the description field.
